Green lumber requires different treatment than dried lumber. Because the logs retain moisture until cut and dried, our freshly-milled boards are still in the process of drying. When used as siding or fencing, we recommend installing boards as soon as you can, allowing them to dry in place. Most of the barns and homesteads across America were assembled using 'green' timber framing. This process is slightly different than modern construction, so we recommend learning the best practices for 'green' building. If you are looking for an interior application, we recommend using our kiln-dried boards.
None of our lumber is pressure treated for ground contact. However, we recommend treating posts for ground contact with a preservative such as Copper-Green to prolong the life of your lumber.
We recommend you take extra care when storing our lumber before use, due to the moisture content. Boards should remains stickered for proper air-flow and limit exposure to sun or heat. If lumber is not kiln-dried, it is best to install before allowing lumber to dry.
We do buy logs from private property with the help of a third-party tree service. Logs near houses are often damaged by metal and can contain hazards to our equipment. Please understand that we do our best to utilize logs for their best use and must meet minimum size and quality requirements. We will do our best to make use of your logs when we can.
We prefer the natural look of our siding products and love that they do not require the upkeep of paint. We do recommend spraying with a fire-retarder in areas where it is required or wildfire is a risk. These products usually do not charge the look or texture of our product but do make you and your home safer.
