In 2021, we took over the operations of a 40-year-old sawmill, built piecemeal by the careful assembly of Ed Conner. We run the same carriage and head-saw assembly that he bought second-hand. He favored traditional mechanics over computer-assisted machines. This philosophy allows us to rely on our own maintenance and care and never wait for a software update.
In 2022, we added to our motley crew by acquiring another hard-working machine. This log lathe was built and ran by the Montgomery-Pogue Family for over 40 years. They designed, manufactured, and assembled hundreds of log homes. By bringing on this equipment, we keep that tradition alive. The lathe can make excellent use of smaller diameter logs, commonly harvested in modern forest thinning.
Head Sawyer and Mechanic, Andrew Muench, takes on the daily operations with his partners, Shannon and Joe O'Malley. Together, we hope to build a sustainable business that can keep providing for the community for another 40 years. We love the gumption and grit that has shaped our local lumber industry and aim to share it with a new generation.
